CenterEdge CEO, Marcus Mayer, shares his thoughts on 2021 in this year-end message.
A word from Marcus
Growing up, I loved the Twilight Zone show. If you are not familiar with the show, it defines itself as “ordinary people finding themselves in extraordinarily astounding situations, which they each try to solve in a remarkable manner.” I cannot write a better definition of the last two years. However, I feel it is Rod Serling’s (the creator and host of the show) opening statement that defines the mantra that my staff has taught me to embrace. “You’re traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That’s the signpost up ahead – your next stop, the Twilight Zone!”
As an old-schooler who tends to worry about the unnecessary, my team has proven we can be just as efficient virtually as we were in the office. My team has shown me not to concern myself with yesterday but rather stop hesitating on decisions today which can prove prosperous tomorrow. We have certainly made some mistakes; however, we have also been highly successful. I’m proud to say that the company is growing. We have exceeded our forecast for the year by miles. Our customer base has grown. And we are increasing the staff again!
I was also pleasantly surprised by the IAAPA Expo. We were able to spend time together as a team again and spend time with old friends while experiencing a very successful show by all measures.
Speaking of “old friends,” I have been amazed to see so many of you having record-breaking years! You all have been such an inspiration. After being completely shut down, you have rebounded, used your imagination to reinvent yourself, and responded to the needs of the public with such vigor that I am no longer fearful that anything could stop our industry. Thank you for your perseverance and fortitude.
As we close out 2021, I leave you all with warm wishes from my immediate family and my extended family at CenterEdge. We are so grateful to have you in our lives!
Happy Holidays and Happiest of New Year’s!
Marcus Mayer
P.S. The first episode of Twilight Zone was titled “Where Is Everybody?” That’s exactly how I feel every time I walk into my “home” office.
