Position Summary

The Director of Development (DOD) is a senior level management position that reports directly to the company CEO. The ideal candidate is an individual who has a balance of high technical expertise and management skills, a keen understanding of Agile methodology, and the ability to lead and organize a department which currently operates three SCRUM teams.  Experience with Point of Sale or ecommerce platforms would be helpful.  Experience in the Amusement, Family Entertainment, or Hospitality industries would be ideal.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the software development team to drive successful delivery of all products while contributing to the product strategy and the overall product roadmap
  • Attract, develop and retain a high performing team, offering ongoing feedback, professional growth opportunities, and overall career guidance
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams responsible for designing and implementing new functionality, as well as improving existing products
  • Set the technical direction for the team, work with the solutions architecture team to evolve the technical platform, and make appropriate technical choices
  • Work effectively with product managers, project managers, engineers, and the senior management team to allocate development resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap requirements (weighing, balancing, & communicating the tradeoffs as necessary)
  • Implement processes and metrics to ensure the software development organization is extremely efficient and focused, and that the products are market ready
  • Investigate and resolve software quality issues and follow industry best practices for escalation as needed
  • Manage, coach and mentor all members of the software development team
  • Maintain awareness and point of view on emerging technologies
  • Manage expectations, set realistic goals, and achieve them
  • Employ agile based development methodologies, and introduce new modes of development practices aligned with changing business priorities and roadmaps
  • Work cross-functionally with senior counterparts to develop overall technology strategy, drive business goals, and roadmap execution

Position Requirements

  • At least 3 years of proven experience in Director of Development or similar role
  • Working knowledge and experience with C++, Visual Basic.NET, JAVA, HTML
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities
  • Ability to undertake some travel in the US
  • Position based in Roxboro, NC
